  • Educating them on the importance of education
  • Encouraging them to focus on science, technology and mathematics subjects
  • Establish the STEM quiz where the winners will walk away with prizes
  • Encouraging the winners to set up science projects
  • Organizing an ICT workshop, where trainings on ICT

Phase 2 – Delivering mentoring workshops in secondary schools around similar topics as in phase 1 but will also include academic and career mentoring and help them to choose the right suited career options. The students will also be assisted in their university application form and support them in trying to secure funding for their studies.

Phase 3 – The girls/boy who have been mentored by LEAD and who have gone on to university will be paired with a mentor in the career area of their choice for 121 mentoring. The mentors will help them navigate through university and also facilitate opportunities for the girl/boy to gain work experience.

The girls/boys in this phase will also mentor the cohort in the phase 2 and provide insights around their own navigation of secondary school.

LEAD Mentorship intends to implement a comprehensive approach to mentorship. The ideal mentorship model will undergo the following steps;

  • Attracting participants to the mentorship program - This stage shall include recruiting the volunteer mentors using different social media platforms. The mentors will be oriented on the expectations in terms of logistical arrangements, location of mentorship workshop, time required for each mentor.  The mentors will also be required to develop training modules for the mentees.
  • Matching mentors with mentees - a mentor will be matched with 5 to 10 mentees. The matching will be based on the rightly suited aspiring career of the mentee.
  • Guide the mentoring relationships - this can be done by establishing check points where mentorships report on their progress, having an organized platform where mentors and mentees can share experience. The mentor will be required to meet the mentees once in two weeks. The mentor-mentees can also be communicating through phone calls.

  • Measuring the impact of the mentorship program- this can be done on two levels; the individual level which focus on what the individual is learning. (This can also be done by comparing the results of the participants and non-participants of the mentorship program)

Program level this can be checked by the level to which the goals and objective of the organization have been met.
